Coca-Cola Co. Gives $7.2 Million to Atlanta Colleges

Friday, October 16, 2009

Coca-Cola Co. announced Wednesday it was giving $7.2 million to support Atlanta’s historically black colleges and universities.

The Atlanta-based beverage firm said it will give $6 million to Spelman College, Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University and the Morehouse School of Medicine. The money will be used to assist students with scholarship funds where economic hardship is impacting the likelihood of the completion of their education.

The company also said it would give $1.2 million to the Robert W. Woodruff Library on the campus of the Atlanta University Center to upgrade the library’s IT infrastructure and enhance the ability to manage and provide access to archival documents, such as the Morehouse College Martin Luther King Jr. Collection.

The Atlanta University Center is a non-profit organization that provides services and programs to Clark, Spelman, Morehouse and Morehouse School of Medicine.
